Every clause in your contract, with the ruling that governs it
Automated Sharia review of bank contracts against the Alinma Bank Sharia committee decisions. It quotes the decision verbatim, abstains when it finds no basis, and leaves the decision to the committee.

The bank buys the goods the client owns for cash, then sells them back to the client on deferred terms

The client insures the goods with a provider the bank selects

The client may pay installments in digital currencies
The Alinma Bank Sharia committee has issued decisions since 2009, and each new decision cites older ones by number.
Today's tools search them by keyword and answer “what is the ruling on this matter?”. The auditor holding a contract asks something else: “what is wrong with this document?”
Fully automated from upload to review file. No human inside the review.
Follow one clause of the demonstration contract through the engine. Everything on this journey comes from a real run of the code deployed on this site, not an illustration.
Step 1 of 7
Before anything reaches the model, code replaces ID, IBAN, phone, card and other numbers with tags.
The model does not need customer data to judge a clause's wording. What is never sent cannot leak.

An illustrative line, run through the same masking function every contract goes through.
The clause describes the deal in commercial words; the decision names it with its fiqh term. Searching the clause's own words misses the link, so Mizan adds the decision's fiqh terms before it searches.

That the bank does not buy from the client goods the client owns, or owns more than a third of, for cash, and then sell them to that same client on deferred terms at a higher price; because that is among the ʿīna sales, which are prohibited.
The bank's legal department proposed an article making every installment due at once on default. The committee refused it, and that refusal is what Mizan cites.

Mizan does not guess. If no committee decision governs a clause, it escalates the clause for human review and states why.
An audit tool that hallucinates is worse than no tool.

We ran Mizan on a test set built from the committee's decisions and compared it with keyword search over the same decisions.
70 synthetic clauses from 11 contracts, clause by clause, on the current version of the engine. Measured on 2 October 2026.
| Metric | Mizan | Keyword search |
|---|---|---|
| Catches non-compliant clausesOf the clauses that really are non-compliant, how many Mizan flagged. A miss is the costliest error. | 93% | 68% |
| PrecisionOf everything it flagged non-compliant, how much really was. | 96% | 48% |
| False alarms on compliant clausesLower is better. False alarms kill adoption. | 0% | 49% |
| Citation correctnessIs the quoted decision the governing one, not a similar text? | 91% | 70% |
| Escalates what should be escalatedWhen no decision governs the clause directly. | 80% | 40% |
| Non-compliance written without the ruling's termOnly 10 clauses, so one clause is 10%. Mizan ranged from 80% to 100% across our runs. | 80% | 80% |
Whole contracts, as the site reviews them (split and sorted): 96% agreement with the answer key on the synthetic contracts, and 71% on 4 real contracts (21 clauses).
Caveats: Claude wrote the synthetic clauses from the decision texts, and Claude, not a Sharia specialist, reviewed the answer key against those texts, so the numbers are likely optimistic. The real contracts are few, and run-to-run stability is 94%. Since Mizan began citing every related decision it has grown more cautious: it sent 4 compliant clauses to review, so clause-by-clause agreement went from 97% to 91%, with no false alarm.
Every clause in the test set is built on an explicit prohibition or condition in a committee decision, with its id. The right answer comes from the committee's decision, not from the team.

The Sharia committee decides. Mizan shortens the road to the decision.
Designed to run inside the bank's environment, on a model the bank chooses: the model is a setting of the engine, not part of its code. This demo uses Claude through an API.
